Tankers are used by shipping companies to transport liquid bulk cargoes. These include oil, gas, chemicals and other types of wet cargo. Tankers make up about 10 percent of the Dutch fleet; not an insignificant number of vessels.
This sector is also responsible for the transport of LNG – the least polluting fossil fuel. This is why LNG is being used more and more as ship’s fuel in the move towards more sustainable activities. As such, LNG infrastructure is being continually expanded; some ships are even being used as floating bunker stations.
KVNR members Anthony Veder and MF Shipping Group are examples of shipping companies active in the tanker sector.
